Christmas Exhibition 2009
The Christmas family night was held in Rathgormack hall on Saturday the 19th December. Considering the terrible weather and bad driving conditions a huge amount of Students and spectators attended. The night started with our younger white belts performing saju jirugi and some front punches and kicking techniques.
This was followed by some pad work by all the colour belt juniors. Chon- Ji Tul was then performed by the junior yellow belts along with some semi- free sparing.
Red and Black belt members then took to the floor and gave an example of some of the harder training excercise that takes place at the Saturday squad training sessions.  Colour belts returned to the floor each section performing the pattern of their belt colour, which gave the audience a chance to see skills developing and also the way the technical difficulty increases as one progresses through the stages of learning.
The stretching routine ended with great applause when Patrice from Kilmacow  finished with a forward running flip and landing straight into the front splits . Junior red belt member Hannah Eade then displayed the pattern of Hwa Rang tul by herself in a fashion that would have been worthy of a medal in any competition. To show to the audience what patterns are all about and how each movement can be utilised Junior Black belt Rosin O Neil then performed the same pattern but this time using it to fight off five attackers.

Students from the Adult class then took to the floor and performed Dan- Gun Tul,  three step sparring and semi-free sparring. These members were all spectators themselves at this event last year and for some of them their 21st birthday is a distant memory showing that you are never too old to begin to study Taekwon-Do. Even within the first year, two of this class have reached green belt level.
The night was slightly marred by the arrival of "gang boss" Black belt Billy Tobin and his cronies who attempted to harass two innocent red belts. A ferocious battle followed which resulted in the five thugs being  disarmed and disabled. A great well rehearsed self- defense routine that could only be made better if some of the unconscious thugs on the ground where not shaking with laughter.
Now as the evening was really starting to get going the wooden boards for  breaking were brought out and a fantastic variety of side kicks, flying kicks, split kicks where displayed by members. Measuring up was shown at very slow speeds to demonstrate the correct technique that would be used for each individual break and the control that had to be used by members to achieve the break. The now reformed gang boss ie Billy Tobin received great applause from the onlookers as his speed punch drove the breaker board 30 ft across the hall.
Senior black belts then took their place at the board holder. This time the anti was upped and breaks where made using three pieces of wood and with more difficult breaking styles. When everyone thought that the display being given by all could get no better, Mr Brendan McGarry Snr black belt attempted to break a board that was being held by a member who was sitting on another members shoulders whilst standing on a chair. Team patterns where then performed by the Senior Black belts showing pure precision and skill that is needed to make it to this level.
Then came the finale of the evening, with our instructor Mr Paul Tobin  demonstrating the power and skill that can be achieved through years of studying Taekwon-Do smashing roof tiles with a variety of kicking and punching techniques.
The night was wound down with three awards being presented. Overall junior student was given to Hannah Eade with overall Senior going to Tom Carley. Most helpful student was given to Robbie Montaine ( sorry about the spelling Robbie) Well done to all three of them.

Before the refreshments were served to thank Mr Tobin for all his hard work and the time that he took to train us and bring us to competitions and seminars a new sign was presented for the outside of the Dojang. The money for this was donated by all the Carrick on Suir students

Once again well done to Mr Tobin for making it all possible. And to all who attended both spectators and particapents and hope to see everyone and more there next year. Photos and You Tube coming soon
