Halloween Camp 2009
Once again Carrrick on Suir Taekwon-Do School has had another first. Once again Mr Tobin has given up his time to pass on his knowledge of the art to others. This time Mr Tobin has grasped the chance to not only let students have extra training but to also give them something to do while the schools are closed for the Halloween break.
The Halloween camp was run through the holiday week and was a unique opportunity to gain extra Taekwon-Do tuition and also to bond with fellow students.
Though ran with all the respect and criteria of a "normal" Taekwon-Do class, the aim of the camp was to show that Taekwon-Do is fun and to give our students encouragement to attend classes because they want to and because of the enjoyment the get from it.
Team bonding was shown with groups being formed all to compete in a finalle fancy dress day that was to be held on the last day of the camp. Mr Tobin knows from years of teaching Taekwon-Do that the best results are achieved by students who want to learn, and to learn you have to have an interest.

The goal of the whole week was to be able to compete in a competition amid your fellow students, on a team that held members of all belt colours .This made training easier.Because each student was now working as a team with members of higher and lower ranking. But this no longer mattered because they were a unit. Suddenly the wish to get that punch correct or the reaction hand all made sense. Others who were of a higher belt themselves gave tuition to the lower and younger belts which in turn asked them to question and look at their own techniques.
The chance to compete and to be at the party at the end of the week was enough to make the least unattentive student sit up and take notice. And it worked.......
When I entered the dojang on Friday morning to take some photos of the event I was shocked. The site of seeing Batman and Hermoine Granger sparring was something I thought I would never see in the Carrick on Suir Dojang. I witnessed mummies and fairies, elves and dead rock stars all on a team performing saju jirugi. The Dojang had been possessed.
